Service

Dear District 10 Zontians,
I am excited to write to you to share an idea for a united District 10 Service/Advocacy/Membership project we can use to combine and elevate our voices during the 16 Days of Activism.  As you will remember the 16 Days of Activism take place from 25 November to 10 December each year and is a time when Zonta International would like all clubs to embrace projects under the Zonta Says No campaign and encourages Zontians to “Orange-the-World” during this time frame.
The attached document provides details for a project our District 10 clubs can undertake that focuses on helping rape survivors by providing bundles of essential items for someone who has undergone a rape exam.  The project consists of locating a rape crisis center in need of such bundles, arranging a time for your club to package these bundles, and participating in a talk on 3 October 2023 at 7pm with Tracy Matheson, founder of Project Beloved.  Tracy will tell her story of how her grief over losing her daughter to murder and sexual assault led her to found Project Beloved and what she has learned about sexual assault.   This talk will be recorded so clubs can use the recording as part of the program when they package their bundles.
Please review the attached informational document for details about the project to include both the service and advocacy aspects of the project.  Also remember that inviting potential members to participate is a great way of showing potential members what it means to be a Zontian.
We will make space on the District 10 website to collect the toolkit and other information about this project.  I will let you know as updates to the website occur.
The Zoom invite information for the 3 October 2023, 7pm talk with Project Beloved founder, Tracy Matheson was sent out in an email to club presidents. A follow-up email will be sent out around two weeks prior to the talk.
Please contact Therese Hartwell, District 10 Advocacy Chair, at thhartwell@yahoo.com with specific questions about packaging bundles.  Feel free to contact me with any questions as well.  Be sure to post pictures of your club in action for the 16 Days of Activism with the #ZontaD1016Days.  Using the hashtag will help me find your actions and include them in the Zonta District 10 16 Days of Activism Summary I will share at 2024 Area Meetings.
Here are some links you may find helpful as well as you assess this project.  The RAINN website has a lot of stats: https://www.rainn.org/statistics/criminal-justice-system and this one with rape myths: https://mail.yahoo.com/d/folders/1/messages/297139?reason=invalid_crumb.

More to come!
I appreciate all you and your clubs do to build a better world for women and girls.
