Governor's Quarterly Message
Hello Zontians! It is hard to believe February is coming to a close and we have had such a mild winter. Spring definitely seems as if it is just around the corner. With spring, comes our Area Meetings! What a great opportunity for us to learn more about Zonta as well as share our club initiatives for membership, legislative awareness, fundraising, etc. Sharing our successes and yes, even sharing our “not-so-successes”, often spurns new ideas. I’d like to emphasize that area meetings are not just for training of incoming club officers. It is a workshop opportunity to learn more about Zonta ─ at Club, District and International levels. Great opportunities to invite a friend for exposure to the wonderful and unique world of Zonta!
Beyond the Area meetings, the 61st Zonta International Convention in Torino, Italy is just around the corner. Early registration is open now until 1 April. We currently have the District 10 Raffle open─we are doing sales electronically since the drawing will be held before the area meetings. Please see the D10 website for information. You may contact District Treasurer Carolyn Smith via e-mail from the website to let her know your check is on the way. Raffle tickets are $100 and depending on sales, you may receive up to $3500 reimbursement for registration, travel and lodging. Many clubs purchase a ticket to fund their delegate! The winning ticket is transferable to another District 10 Zontian if you are unable to go.
Zonta International Slate of Candidates has been released. Sally Rankin, Zonta Club of Houston, is on the slate for International Director. Way to go, Sally! We are proud of you!
We are trying to link up all D10 Zontians that will be attending ZI Convention thru the website. If you are going, please let Judy Kautz, Webmaster, know so you can be part of the group plans. Also, if you need a roommate, we will try to link up other D10 Zontians. Our District 10 Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, 7 July, so please remember this date when making your travel plans. ZI President, Pres-Elect, and Liaison, Sonja will join us. Great photo opportunity!
Couple of Zonta International points from the ZI January Board meeting─Our Zonta trademark has been registered in the US and EU (27 countries)! What does this mean for our work? In the future, wherever Zontians produce documents such as business cards, letterheads, brochures, etc, the logo must include the tiny “r”─®. I will share more information when the logo with the trademark is ready for use. It will be made available on Zonta.org website.
One final note on Zonta International Foundation ─ D10 is doing extremely well in club and individual donations. We are close to achieving the number one goal of 100% of D10 club donating to ZI. Also this biennium we have increased the number of individual givers and several clubs are working hard to be recognized at convention for 100% of their club members donating to ZI. We are in great shape to end the biennium in the top 10 so let’s finish strong! I certainly don’t want to steal Foundation Ambassador, Barbara Yoder’s thunder, as I know her newsletter article provides additional details, but I want to thank you again for your generosity.
See you at the area meetings!
Yours in Zonta Service,
Janis
