A Message From our District 10 Governor Sheryl Flanagin

Honoring the Past and Empowering the Future

Dear Zonta D10 Zontians,

What a great time in Cleburne, Texas, at our 2nd Governor’s Summit! My many thanks to Zonta Club of Johnson County for hosting a successful meeting and to you who attended.

We had ninety-six attendees, with seventeen of our nineteen clubs represented.  Plus, what a special bonus for us all to have three remarkable Amelia Earhart Fellows with us.  I hope those of you present had a good day of reconnecting with your Zonta friends.  I certainly did.

Of course, I am especially pleased with the information shared. Weren’t you glad hear about the connection between Zonta and the United Nations from our D10 UN Chair Pam Perraud?  I heard from one attendee that this information finally made things “click” for two of her newer members.  I’m thinking it probably did so as well for some of our seasoned members.  Also, wasn’t the presentation from Kristin Koblis, our D10 Advocacy Chair, regarding child marriage eye-opening and disturbing?  I know it encouraged me to make certain that my club follows ZI’s recommendation that ending child marriage be the focus of our 16 Days of Activism.

In addition to learning more about the UN and our ending child marriage initiative, we also received valuable information about leadership, ZI Service projects, scholarships, club news, membership, communication tools, centennial activities, and our goals.  As one Zontian said, “We received as much information as at our D10 Conferences.”  It was a busy day.

And, wasn’t our live ZIF auction fun?  Sally Rankin certainly is persuasive. We are an incredibly generous district!  Our Foundation Ambassador Kim Vann reports that we had 48 individual donors for $14,869, with club giving at $79,462.  The total was record breaking at $94,331!  I’m sure you are as proud of our district as I am, and I imagine that ZIF is thrilled.  On the district level, our Dollars for Scholars raised $2988.91.  That funds three of our scholarships!

The presentations given at the summit will be available on our Zonta D10 website, with my thanks to our D10 Audio Visual Chair Judy Kautz. I am so grateful to all who prepared and presented such needed information and to Zonta Club of Austin for their moving memorial service.

Now, it’s time to look to the future.  Please, start making your plans to attend your area meetings in the spring and our 2019 D10 Conference on October 17-19 in Lafayette.  Zonta Club of Lafayette’s fun and energetic invitation makes it certain that those good times will roll in Louisiana.

May you and yours enjoy the upcoming holiday season!

See you in the spring!

All my best,

Sheryl Flanagin
